Secret tee to honor Ji!

We selected Ji Hong to be our official honoree for the 2010 Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama!  We'd like to surprise her with this, so shhhhh!

The tee was designed by Patricia, photo by Ruffo (taken at Traci's ramp--thanks Traci!). If you click on the image, it should enlarge so you can see it better.

Patti McGee, our 2008 Honoree, is making the shirts and will be selling them directly (without Skateboard Moms as a middlewoman). If you want a shirt, Patti needs to hear from you asap. Ladies shirts will be roughly $19 and men's $15 or $16.  Patti will be selling them in advance of the Mothers Day event via PayPal (or money order, but no personal checks or credit cards). Patti plans to deliver the shirts to the event, but for those who can't be there she will ship the shirt for $3.50.

Please email Patti asap if you're hoping to get one! Please put "Mighty Mama tee" in the Subject line. Her email: azoutpost1990@aol.com

And the winner is...

Jane Gillings, a skate mom from Sydney, Australia, is the winner of our logo design contest!

Although we received many creative and colorful designs, the judges appreciated Janes' lean, clean design---perfect for letterhead, stickers, hats, etc.  Congrats Jane!

Logo Contest Basics

Skateboard Moms Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers women through skateboarding, is looking for a fitting logo to symbolize the spirit and mission of our group. Our annual Mothers Day event, the Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama, brings together women of all ages for a charity event that celebrates fun, fitness and fearlessness!

We're looking for artistic contributors to design our new logo, which will be used on Skateboard Mom promotional items, company letterhead, event banners, etc. The deadline for entries is midnight on Jan. 31, 2010. The prize: infinite glory!

Well, infinite glory plus a choice of first-run tee shirt, mug, cap or deck. We will also try to give credit to the artist whenever and wherever we use the logo, if possible.

Ideally, the logo should capture the spirit and mission of Skateboard Moms, which strives to inspire all women (mom and non-mom, beginner through expert, all shapes, sizes, colors and creeds) to celebrate fitness, camaraderie, and personal achievement through skateboarding!

If you're willing to donate some of your creative time and talent, we'd love to see what kind of logo you can come up with. Keep in mind the winning logo will be used on a variety of promotional items, so it needs to look as sharp on the front of a baseball cap as it does on a large banner. If you are not familiar with Skateboard Moms, please take a moment to peruse the photos and video below to better understand what we're about!

Instructions:

Please email a jpeg or gif of your design to our entries coordinator at soccerakw@gmail.com by midnight Jan. 31, 2010 and put "Skate Moms Logo Contest" in the subject line. From there, the entries will be forwarded to our panel of judges for review. NOTE: This will be a "blind judging," so please do NOT include your name, initials or other personally identifiable information on the artwork. Your entry will be forwarded to the judges without your email address attached. Artists are allowed to enter up to five entries per person.

Skateboard Moms was founded on Mothers Day 2004 and counts nearly 400 women worldwide as members. The group, which includes both moms and non-moms (aka our "Skateboard Aunties") has been featured in a variety of media including Good Morning America, CNN, The Early Show, National Public Radio, BBC Radio, USA Today, the LA Times, Boston Globe and many others. Skateboard Moms also has a community service project, Rolling4Reading, which delivers new and gently-used books to kids in need---delivery is done on skateboard. Questions about our group? Please contact barb@skateboardmom.com

Here are some photos and video of Skateboard Moms through the years.
